10/25: MEAT’S MEAT, AND THE DEAD GOTTA EAT
Dutchmogul here, back with our blog post for my favorite month.
MEAT
So this is the biggest news of the month. MEAT got a beta release to our monthly supporters last year. In the year since, we’ve tooled around with the rules and gotten it to a point where we’re feeling ready to release it, so we tossed it up on Kickstarter on October 1st. That campaign has a couple of days left as of this post, so be sure and check it out if you didn’t grab the beta and want to get in on some survival horror themed skirmish RPG shenanigans.
We’ve been playing this with abandon at IGG HQ and Jeremy just scored the first victory on behalf of a single investigator. The game, as intended for one-on-one play, is quite (intentionally) difficult. Our games have been good inspiration to spur me to create a bunch of new character designs as well. We’ve been having a blast rolling up characters, then immediately sculpting, printing, and painting a miniature for them. This is doubly great because I’m trying to do a daily design release on Patreon & MMF Tribes. Which brings me to the next topic…
Macabre Stream-of-Consciousness Sculpting
I’ve been working on various modern horror miniature designs for our patrons, just sort of going with what I’m inspired to make for our own table and dropping the designs into a series of appropriate sets. This isn’t all that different from my usual method, except I’ve been dropping them daily rather than up front at the start of the month. This month will end up being a bit more of a haul than usual. We’ve got spooky trees, cemetery scatter terrain, horror heroes, monsters, and much of this will be getting MEAT-compatible rules at some point as well.
October Free Miniature: Hungry Dead Gestalt
The Kickstarter backers (and supporters of the original beta) will be getting some special rules for variants on the hungry dead, including the hideously fused gestalt. This skinless undead powerhouse prints FDM support free, but comes with a pre-supported version for those printing in resin.
This is ultimately my favorite genre and I always have a blast working with these themes. We’ll see if this doesn’t continue into November with a sort of “Halloween hangover.” It very well may. In any case, happy gaming,
