4/25: WAR FOR THE FIVE BOROUGHS
Hey, folks. Dutchmogul here, back with an update for the IGG goings-on for April.
THE WAR FOR THE FIVE BOROUGHS RAGES ON…
As of posting, the Streets of Plasma campaign has a couple of days left to go on Kickstarter, and our first big Monday night play test campaign might also be winding down to a close. The Survival Gangs players currently have all but one territory (Brooklyn being held by the Reptiloid incursion force). The plan is to play a big 3 versus 3 team battle once one side has the entire map, determining whether the losing side (aliens, currently) can get a foothold on the map before the other forces clinch their victory. We’ve been playing on those Loke Battle Mats books for our matches (so, so handy), but we’ll switch over to a full terrain table for the final skirmish.
MUSINGS ON FABLED YONDOOR
We’ve been playing a lot of Passage to Yondoor as well and I got inspired to tinker with the core rules, adding an additional four pages of random events. We haven’t released this modified version of the rules yet, but we will alongside the next Kickstarter we run for expansion material and it’ll be a free expansion to the book. (We also tightened this up just a smidge, fixing some typos and the like.) With those extra events, that rounds things off so there are now 100 unique events for that d100 roll.
I personally just took my first successful run through the game (thanks, GM David) and while I got a super-powered “Dragon King” magician out of the process, I also left a trail of dead delvers in his wake. I realized how useful these characters are for later runs though, as you can never have enough rival delver NPCs on hand. I’ll be collecting those into a binder and this is something that I think could really enhance long-term gameplay. Not only does it get you a bevy of ready-made NPCs (for any CRUX gaming), but serves as a record for those failed delves (kind of like the tombstone screen from the original Rogue (big inspiration here, obviously)). Also, for the purpose of continuity, the Labyrinth Everlasting is a mysteriously ensorcelled place, so it makes sense that some of the dead could be trapped here as thralls to its magic and destined to die and die again.
We’ve got some big expansions planned for this game, including a full “sequel” game where you can continue the adventures of those who pass the fabled gates to the promised land. Meanwhile, we just released the Guard Dragon via our Multiverse Monday feature, which means all of our Patreon supporters (even those pledged at $1 per month) get access to the full support-free STL menagerie of dungeon dwellers featured in the book (along with over 300 other models in that collection). Speaking of support-free minis…
APRIL FREE MINIATURE: SCARLETT O’TERROR
For this month’s miniature entry, let’s give a little nod to the Survival Gangs with a new unique unit: Scarlett O’Terror. Formerly a pivot for the Bronx area Trauma Queens, this derby superstar now skates the empty streets of NYC bludgeoning extra-dimensional invaders with her trusty bat.
Whether you’re printing the FDM support free STL or using the pre-supported resin version, download the zip file below and get to printing! The zip also includes an OpenTactics unit card, so if you’re getting in on Streets of Plasma via Patreon, Tribes, or Kickstarter, you can immediately throw this roller queen into the mix.
Thanks for reading and we hope you’ll be back next month. Until then, happy gaming!
